New to container pools? Here are some key points
What Is A Container Pool?
Shipping container pools have become a unique and stylish solution for homeowners looking for a modern, durable, and customizable swimming pool. At Midwest Container Pools, we specialize in transforming steel shipping containers into functional, beautifully designed pools that meet the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. But what exactly is a shipping container pool, and how are they built? In this blog, we’ll take you behind the scenes to explain what makes our pools exceptional and how we bring them to life.
A shipping container pool is exactly what it sounds like: a swimming pool constructed from repurposed shipping containers. These containers, originally designed to transport goods across the globe, are made from durable Corten steel – a weather-resistant material that stands up to harsh environments. By giving these containers a second life as swimming pools, we create an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to traditional pools. However, it’s not as simple as cutting a hole and filling it with water. At Midwest Container Pools, we’ve developed a unique process that transforms the basic shipping container into a high-quality, long-lasting pool that exceeds customer expectations.
How We Build Our Shipping Container Pools
At Midwest Container Pools, we take pride in creating a better product than what you’ll find in the industry. Through years of experience in pool construction and design, we identified flaws in traditional container pools and developed innovative solutions that set our pools apart.
The process begins by sourcing high-grade, one-trip shipping containers. These containers are chosen for their structural integrity and minimal wear, ensuring a solid foundation for the pool. While many other builders settle for older containers, we believe starting with the best materials is critical to delivering a durable product. Shipping containers are inherently strong, but once you cut openings for windows or stairs, their structural integrity can be compromised. To address this, we reinforce key areas of the container with steel bracing and supports. This ensures that the container remains strong and stable, even when filled with thousands of gallons of water.
What truly sets Midwest Container Pools apart is our custom fiberglass shell installation. Traditional container pools often use simple liners or epoxy coatings, which are prone to leaks and wear over time. Instead, we install a precision-crafted fiberglass shell inside the container. This creates a watertight seal and a durable, smooth surface that resists cracks, fading, and chemical damage. Fiberglass is also easier to clean and maintain, ensuring your pool stays beautiful for years to come.
To enhance the efficiency and durability of the pool, we apply high-performance spray foam insulation around the fiberglass shell. This step is crucial for maintaining stable water temperatures, preventing moisture-related issues, and improving energy efficiency. Spray foam insulation also makes our pools suitable for various climates, from cold winters to scorching summers.
Customization is a cornerstone of our process. We work closely with our customers to integrate design features that fit their needs and style preferences. Pools can include integrated stairs for easy entry, pool lighting for nighttime enjoyment, and custom finishes like tiling, decking, and railings. Whether you’re envisioning a minimalist plunge pool or a luxurious backyard escape, we bring your vision to life.
Before any pool leaves our shop, it undergoes rigorous quality control testing to ensure it meets our high standards. We verify that the pool is completely watertight, structurally sound, and fully functional, with all components—from filtration systems to lighting—operating as intended. This attention to detail ensures that your pool is ready for a lifetime of enjoyment.
Why Choose a Shipping Container Pool?
Shipping container pools offer several unique advantages over traditional pools. They are often more affordable than in-ground concrete or fiberglass pools, and because they are built off-site, installation is much faster. Repurposing shipping containers also supports sustainability by reducing waste. The durable combination of Corten steel and fiberglass construction ensures that these pools can last for decades, while their customizable nature allows homeowners to tailor the design to their specific needs and aesthetic preferences. Another advantage is portability; if you move, you can take your pool with you.
Our Commitment to Quality and Innovation
At Midwest Container Pools, we’re not just building pools; we’re setting a new standard in the industry. Our experience in pool construction, combined with our innovative approach to fiberglass shells and insulation, allows us to create a product that is unmatched in quality and durability. The first version of our pool was built with the same passion and dedication that drives our company today. We took what we learned from that initial design and applied it to improve every aspect of our process—from sourcing materials to creating a more energy-efficient and longer-lasting product.
